Le télécollaboration dans l'apprentissage des langues implique des échanges interculturels sur internet entre des étudiants de différents pays/cultures/langues. Leurs objectifs principaux sont l'acquisition et développement des compétences linguistiques, communicatives et interculturelles, afin que les apprenants participent dans des contextes authentiques de communication et échange culturels.

Telecollaboration in foreign language education refers to the use of online communication tools to connect language learners in different countries for the development of collaborative project work and intercultural exchange. Telecollaboration covers a wide range of activities and exploits a variety of online communication tools, including e-learning platform, web-based message boards, podcasting, video conferencing and others social media.

Groningen-Padua Skype collaboration

Students often wish to practice their speaking skills more regularly, but they are sometimes reluctant to take the initiative to talk with their own classmates in English. This project provides learners of English at the universities of Groningen and Padua with assignments to structure their discussions with other learners at approximately the same language level. Using Skype as the medium for communication, the project lowers the threshold for students to speak English with other learners outside the classroom.

Skype was installed in the language labs at both universities, together with a programme to video-record all the discussions. Furthermore, an electronic learning environment was created through which the students could find descriptions of the assignments as well as instructions for the various tools they were expected to use. After recording the assignments, students were asked to self-assess their performance using the assessment tool WebCEF ( www.webcef.eu ). They then received teacher feedback on their self-assessment.  

INTUIT (ENglish TUtoring through IT)

is a curriculum renewal project organized by a number of Dutch universities. The project aims to integrate and implement IT in English language teaching, with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) as a starting point. Various pilots projects within the project have investigated how student autonomy can be increased by a targeted use of IT. Examples include programmes for diagnostic testing, independent practising and the use of a digital portfolio. More information can be found on the project’s website.

 The Embed Project (2009-2011)

addressed the need for local samples of academic writing at the B and C levels of the CEFR by filtering student essays through a series of internal and external (international) panels of experts. This project shows the value and the feasibility of CEFR standardisation procedures for teacher training purposes. The project has also shown the importance of making such materials available online as busy teachers are not always able to attend all standardization sessions.

LE PROJET LEON - GRENOBLE 

Université de Grenoble et Université de León

Le Projet Léon - Grenoble est le résultat de la collaboration entre deux projets de recherche: Le français en (première) ligne (F. Mangenot, Université Stendhal -Grenoble 3) et le Campus Virtuel FLE  (M.Tomé - Universidad de León).

Cette recherche-action consiste d’une part à faire réaliser par des étudiants en master de français langue étrangère (Université de Grenoble) des tâches multimédias pour des étudiants distants (Université de León), d’autre part de susciter des échanges en ligne entre les deux publics autour de ces tâches.

Les objectifs du Projet León - Grenoble sont les suivants : 

- favoriser une communication authentique et des échanges linguistiques et culturels dans le contexte d'apprentissage d' une langue étrangère: FLE (français langue étrangère).

- développer la compréhension et la production orales chez les étudiants espagnols et réaliser des expériences pédagogiques avec les NTIC en classe de français (création de tâches, utilisation d'une plate-forme d'enseignement, outils informatiques audio-visuels, tutorat).

- mettre en place un dispositif d'enseignement à distance comme espace d'expérimentation pour les chercheurs (laboratoire LIDILEM et projet FLENET) ainsi que pour les futurs enseignants (expériences avec de vrais apprenants, tâches multimédia authentiques et communication réelle).

 

ECHANGES PROJET  LEON - LILLE  -  Universités de Lille et León 

 Echanges-Projet León - Lille est le résultat de la collaboration entre les réseaux éducatifs Foreigners in Lille (Université Lille 1) et Campus FLE Education (Université de León) 

OBJECTIFS:

- développer la compréhension et la production orales chez les apprenants de FLE en utilisant de tâches pédagogiques et des outils informatiques (ressources audiovisuelles, enregistreurs audio, podcast, édition de textes, forum de discussion).

- réaliser des expériences pédagogiques avec le web 2.0 dans le cadre d'un réseau social éducatif (plateforme Ning) comme dispositif d'enseignement du FLE à distance.

The WKTO project involves students from 30 schools in 15 countries. They organize projects in German, Spanish and English languages. The students carry out a survey or write texts or poems in a language which is not their native language.

1. The pedagogical Principle : Virtual Classes.
We work in virtual classes. What we call virtual classes are groups of students from different countries who are going to work together. A virtual class may be composed of (for example) : 2 Greek students, 2 Romanian, 2 Polish, 2 Swedish, 2 German and 2 French students. These students work asynchronously in the digital workspaces to carry out their project.
"If your students’ native language is not English, you can join a project in the English language!"
We have chosen to use one language only in each project. Let's take as an example French students who are studying English.
If you ask a teacher in England to work with you he is not interested because there is no profit for his students.
We have chosen the solution which consists in finding several partners in countries where the native language is not the project's language  (in our example it is English), such as Russia, Romania or Sweden. In this case, all the students communicate in English.

2. Organization of a project: 6 Major steps are followed.

1. The teacher translates the Good Conduct Charter into the pupils' own language and asks them to agree to it.
2. Students get acquainted with the digital workspaces and do a test entry on the training page.
3. Each student submits a short text to introduce himself/herself.
4. Students are invited to work together on subjects decided by the teachers. Their texts may be accompanied by photos.
5. Finally, the results of these activities are recorded on the internet page of each virtual class.
6. Students say good bye to their partners.

Projet TALLENT - Apport des TIC dans l'enseignement et apprentissage des langues

Les auteurs du projet sont des membres du réseau thématique dans le domaine des langues (TNP - Thematic Network Project), subventionné par Socrates, qui ont tous participé au sous-groupe "nouvelles technologies et apprentissage des langues". 3.2 Participants
This project brought together the following exchange partners:
• 5 adult learners from the Open University (UK)
• 10 campus based students from Carnegie Mellon University (USA) and
• 10 French native speakers enrolled in a MA programme for distance education (Master FOAD1) at the Université de Franche Comté (France) taught partly on site partly at a distance.

The student participants were complemented by a team of 7 tutor-researchers from all
three institutions. Table 2 summarises some of the circumstances under which each
learner group took part in the project.
While the UK learners were already familiar with the audio-graphic conferencing
application, Lyceum, – their ‘natural’ tuition environment – the French and American
students had to be trained in the use of this application. However, more than half of the
participants (3 from the UK, 4 from the US, and 7 from France) had already created and
managed a blog or at least contributed to one. Table 3 provides information regarding
the learners’ diverse backgrounds.

Lyceum provides multiple synchronous audio channels for live online discussion as well
as a limited version of synchronous text chat, and several shared graphic interfaces (for

Unlike most telecollaboration projects this exchange involved the use of CMC to put students who were in the same city in contact with one another, Erasmus students who were studying at the University of Padova and Italian students of English language at the University of Padova. The aims of the project included the integration of Erasmus students in the local student community, stimulating interest in the Erasmus programme among Italian students, development of intercultural competence, Italian language (for the Erasmus students) and online literacies.
